Columbia County property owner cited after fire spreads to 12 acres

APPLING, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A Columbia County property owner was cited after violating the state’s burn ban on Saturday.

An incident report shows a property owner started a fire to burn yard waste on Saturday. After a few hours, he went back to Evans, leaving the fire unattended at the house he’s building in Appling.

The fire spread to a lawnmower and then a gas can with fuel in it. Twelve acres were consumed. The fire encroached to neighboring property lines, coming roughly within 50 feet of nearby structures…
