Augusta Commission votes to refer housing audit to Inspector General

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Augusta Commission voted Tuesday to refer unresolved questions from a housing department audit to the federal Office of Inspector General, escalating concerns over missing financial records tied to COVID-19 rental assistance funds.

The motion passed after commissioners debated whether to involve the FBI directly or follow a more structured federal review process. The decision directs city legal staff to contact the Inspector General as the next step in addressing gaps identified in the audit.
