AUGUSTA, Ga (WJBF)- Construction on the Jones Alley project has finally begun, three years after it was approved.
Soon, pedestrians in downtown Augusta will have a new walkway between James Brown Boulevard and the Augusta Common. The $1.7 million project was approved in 2023, and is now becoming a reality.
“The transformation of that alley will not only connect, but it’ll be more walk-able. The restaurants on Broad Street can now have seating areas on the back side of their building, so it becomes more vibrant. It becomes a lively, a lively alley,” said Margaret Woodard, executive director at the Downtown Development Authority.
