GRANITEVILLE, S.C. (WJBF) – The Graniteville Kids Fishing Rodeo is a free community event happening on April 25th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and to find out more about it the Your Hometown Roadtrip team stopped by and spoke with the Senior HR Manager of Bridgestone, Monica Key to find out what the event is all about.
What is a fishing rodeo?
“The Graniteville Fishing Rodeo is for kids, it’s a free event, it started back in the day when Graniteville Company was still operating in the area, and it went away so we decided we wanted to bring something back for the community for the kids, and so a small group of us got together and said ‘well lets get this thing back,’ and that’s basically what we did, where this is our third year in bringing it back. Last year we had over 2,000 participants right here. Really we wanted a way to bring the community together, we wanted a way to give kids something to do outdoors, and not in front of video, or a phone or Social Media, and that was really how it started. We started socializing that and were getting a good response from Facebook where we kind of had it publicized, and before we knew it the event just grew, and now we got dozens of vendors, we have free activities for the kids. This year we’ve added a concert, Cody Webb is going to be here doing a free concert, and most everything is free. We’re giving free hot dogs out to the participants that are going to be here, but we’ll have a lot of food truck vendors with delicious food, and we’ll have vendors selling some things, it’s just a lot of fun.”…
