AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Water restrictions remain in place in parts of the CSRA as dry conditions continue to raise concerns about fire risk.In Columbia County and Beech Island, residents are limited on when they can water. Restrictions include no watering on Mondays and specific watering days based on address.Officials say breaking those rules could lead to fines starting at $50 and eventually losing water service.Operations Fire Chief Danny Kuhlmann, Columbia County Fire Department, says conditions remain extremely dry.“98% of all the counties in the state of Georgia are at the extreme level of drought,” Kuhlmann said. “That means there’s very little moisture in the soil or the vegetation.”Kuhlmann says Columbia County has also sent crews to help fight wildfires in South Georgia.“There’s not just one fire, there’s multiple fires,” Kuhlmann said. “We sent a crew and some units down there to assist – seven personnel, two firefighting vehicles, an engine and a wildland unit.Rain is expected this week, but meteorologists say it may not be enough to make a major difference.“What I would really like to see is rainfall totals within just a couple of days being around two inches,” said Avery Gray, WJBF…..
