Anti-vax group sues Denver bar for violating Disabilities Act after shutting down event

DENVER (KDVR) — The founder of a group for unvaccinated people is suing Recess Beer Garden for millions after the Denver bar cancelled a meet-up that stirred up controversy across the internet.

On Wednesday, Shelby Hosana, the founder of Unjected, and Mike Yellen filed a lawsuit against 13 people, most of whom own and operate Recess, citing several claims, including unlawful discrimination, defamation and violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Recess Beer Garden shuts down anti-vax mixer after ‘safety concerns’

This comes after Recess shut down a mixer announced by the anti-vaccination group in May. Unjected, a community for unvaccinated people, is hosting mixers across the country, including a stop in Denver. Unjected announced the event at Recess, and shortly after, the bar released a statement cancelling the event, saying they didn’t sponsor, authorize or book it.

This sparked a debate across social media, with some saying that Recess talking about a non-discrimination policy while they are discriminating against the event organizers is “wild work,” while others were asking if this meet-up was a joke…
