DENVER (KDVR) — A man convicted of second-degree murder following a guilty plea was sentenced to several decades behind bars for a 2025 fatal shooting in Denver.
According to Denver District Attorney John Walsh, Rafael Acosta-Hernandez was sentenced to the maximum allowable 38 years in prison after he pleaded guilty in April to the second-degree murder charge.

The case stemmed from March 6, 2025, when Acosta-Hernandez was selling food out of his pickup truck in the 2600 block of North Zuni Street
According to the release, Acosta-Hernandez became angry when 25-year-old Leonel Silva-Perez, who was unarmed at the time, asked him for free food.
