HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. — A Highlands Ranch homeowner says he’s spending at least $4,000 to stay in compliance with his HOA after receiving a warning about his lawn.
Jesse, who asked that his last name not be used, said he received a letter from his HOA in May after exposed patches of soil appeared on his lawn. The neighborhood association asked him to cover the areas.

Already dealing with dead and dried-up grass, Jesse decided to replace his lawn with drought-friendly plants to bring it into compliance. While he said this will eventually save him some water, planting new greenery will use a lot of water up front.
“It’s not where our resources should be. Everybody wants to maintain their property values, but, if we don’t have any water, your property value is going to go way, way down,” Jesse said…
