DENVER (KDVR) — A bat inside a Denver home quickly became a frightening situation for Lauren Conness and her family after the animal made its way into a bedroom where her 18-month-old daughter was sleeping.
Conness, a philanthropy adviser for the Denver Health Foundation, said her husband first spotted the bat in the kitchen on July 19. They tried to get it outside, but it slipped underneath a bedroom door and ended up in their bedroom.

That raised a concerning question: could the bat have gotten into their daughter’s room?
Conness contacted her daughter’s pediatrician and was told to begin the rabies post-exposure process. Her daughter ultimately completed the vaccine series through Denver Health.
