DENVER (KDVR) — The family of a man shot and killed by an Aurora police officer is suing the city of Aurora and the officer himself after the officer was indicted for murder by a grand jury, according to a legal document obtained by FOX31 on Monday afternoon.
On Aug. 30, 2025, Aurora officer Matthew Neely shot and killed 37-year-old Rajon Belt-Stubblefield. The Aurora Police Department said that Neely attempted to pull over Belt-Stubblefield, who police said drove away and crashed his vehicle. After exiting his vehicle, an interaction ensued between the two, resulting in the deadly shooting of Belt-Stubblefield.

Nearly a year later, on Aug. 3, 2026, a grand jury indicted Neely on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter.
