Denver Police say a shooting in the 1900 block of East Colfax Avenue sent one victim to the hospital early Saturday morning, with investigators still working to piece together who pulled the trigger. Officers were called to the scene and located the victim before transporting them for medical treatment, according to the department’s alert.
In a post shared on the social platform X, Denver Police Dept. confirmed it was investigating the shooting and that it had located one victim and transported them to the hospital. The department said its investigators are working to develop suspect information and pledged to post updates to the same thread as they become available. As of the alert, no arrests or suspect descriptions had been released.
A Corridor Under Repeated Strain
The 1900 block sits in central Denver’s City Park West and Cheesman Park area near Race and Vine streets, roughly two miles east of downtown, according to the Denver Gazette. The block mixes commercial retail, convenience stores, and residential properties, and it isn’t the first time this stretch has drawn police attention — in December 2018, Denver Police investigated a fatal homicide in the same block near a 7-Eleven during a weekend string of citywide shootings, as reported by Patch at the time.
Hoodline has covered a string of shootings along the East Colfax corridor in recent months, including a nonfatal shooting on North Willow Street in early August that sent a victim to the hospital, and reports of shots fired near Tamarac and Colfax later that month. Those incidents followed a fatal shooting at a Colfax Avenue gas station in early August that also left a Golden police officer wounded, and a fatal shooting at East Colfax Avenue and Dahlia Street during a bloody overnight stretch in June that left one person dead across four separate shootings, as per Hoodline.
Homicides Climbing Even As Overall Crime Dips
The shooting comes amid a citywide surge in homicides that has alarmed Denver officials this year. Denver homicides increased by roughly 37% to 40% during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, even as overall crime across the city fell by about 0.5%, according to Axios.
