Barry Morphew charged in Denver hit-and-run crash

Barry Morphew has been charged in a Denver crash that led to the bond in his murder case being increased by millions of dollars, according to court records.

Denver County Court’s website shows that Morphew faces the following charges:

  • Careless driving
  • Leaving the scene of an accident – damage only
  • Failing to report an accident – call police
  • Driving without a driver’s license
  • Failure to display proof of insurance

The crash happened on the evening of Aug. 26 at East 8th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. A woman whose car was struck recorded video that appeared to show Morphew refusing to identify himself before driving away from the scene.

Morphew had been free while awaiting trial after posting a surety on a $3 million bond in September 2025. After the crash, he was ordered by District Judge Amanda C. Hopkins to remain at his home at all times with no exceptions.
