DENVER, CO — A Denver security company that has received millions of dollars from local governments hired fired police officers for taxpayer-funded assignments, including prisoner watch work for the City of Aurora. Denver7 Investigates found that Denver Metro Security was paid roughly $3 million by Aurora since 2023 for a range of services.
City invoices show one of the company’s workers on those jobs was a former Aurora police officer who later handled prisoner watches while the same city paid the bill. The discovery has raised questions from an Aurora councilman about how the arrangement was approved and whether city oversight was strong enough to catch it.
Officials and former law enforcement leaders said prisoner watches are common when someone in custody must be monitored in a hospital. But the case has drawn attention because the city hired a private contractor, then learned that some of the people carrying out the work had already been fired by police agencies in Colorado.
Aurora invoices point to former officer Jordan Odneal
