Colorado health regulators issued two separate warnings this month after cannabis products sold across the Denver area failed state safety testing — one for moldy flower, the other for vape cartridges with excessive butane. The products came from two different companies, but both ended up on shelves at multiple metro dispensaries before regulators caught the problem.
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and the Department of Revenue Marijuana Enforcement Division issued a joint health and safety advisory on September 11 for marijuana flower sold under the brand Locol Love, made by Navajo Management LLC, according to Westword. Testing found yeast and mold levels above the limits set in Colorado Marijuana Rule 4-215, the state regulation that caps Total Yeast and Mold counts at 10,000 Colony Forming Units per gram and holds cannabis to zero tolerance for E. coli and Salmonella, per the Code of Colorado Regulations. The affected batches, numbered 20260317gv2d and 20260203km4d, were sold at 10 dispensaries across Colorado between April 10 and August 21, including Natures Medicine South Denver at 9206 E. Hampden Ave., Elite Cannabis at 1410 S. Santa Fe Dr., and Social Cannabis Dispensary at 1119 Syracuse St.
Five days later, on September 15, regulators released a second advisory covering vape devices sold under the Stash House CO brand, made by CC Brands LLC. Those vapes — specifically batch 1576, sold as Bluecifer Berry Kush Indica 2g cartridges — tested with butane levels exceeding the limits established in the same state rule. The vapes were sold at 43 stores statewide between August 13 and September 3, with 12 of those locations in the Denver area, including Golden Meds at 4620 N. Peoria St., Native Roots at 7870 W. Quincy Ave., and Social Cannabis Dispensary, which also carried the tainted flower batch.
State Won’t Say Where Contamination Started
Colorado regulators said the advisory itself does not determine where the contamination originated in either product’s supply chain. Both notices carry the same guidance: anyone holding either product should destroy it or return it to the store of purchase for proper disposal, and anyone who experiences adverse health effects after using either item should seek medical attention right away…
