State health officials have issued a public alert after an out-of-state visitor may have exposed others to measles in Colorado. The unvaccinated individual traveled across the state, later confirmed to have the viral disease.
According to a press release on the matter, the first known exposure location is Denver Union Station between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15. A following known exposure location is La Quinta Inn on Ingles Lane in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, with the possible timing of exposure there being 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on September 16.
Those who may have been exposed should monitor for symptoms for at least 21 days after potential exposure or through about October 7, with initial symptoms including fever, a cough, a runny nose, and red eyes. Several days later, a rash tends to appear on the face, spreading down to the rest of the body. Those who have not had the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine are at a significantly higher level of risk.
