“I still have a bullet inside of me”: Fundraiser hosted for Golden police officer, shot during deadly OIS

DENVER (KDVR) — The MC-1 Foundation hosted a fundraiser for a Golden Police Officer, injured in the line of duty, on Saturday in Littleton.

Officer Greg Metzel was shot while responding to an incident at a gas station on Aug. 8, 2026, at 17691 W. Colfax Ave. Golden police said a suspect started shooting at responding officers. That is when Metzel says he was shot in the shoulder, where the bullet remains lodged. The Jefferson County Coroner identified 44-year-old Brian Scott Phillips as the suspect, who died at the scene.

No charges to be filed against officers after Denver shooting

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Metzel said. “The bone is healed in my shoulder.”

Metzel said he is awaiting surgery and his recovery could take six months to a year. Saturday, MC-1, whose mission is to support first responders and their families, hosted a fundraiser at Saucy’s Pizza at 5055 S. Kipling Street, Littleton, Colorado…
