Pediatric cancer patient and family share story of hospital stays in Denver

DENVER (KDVR) — Nine-year-old Sam Selzer is an active kid, playing sports while keeping his parents on their toes; however, a few years ago, he was in the fight for his life.

“I got home from school, not feeling well and took a nap,” Sam told FOX31. “When I woke up, I couldn’t breathe.”

Sam and the Selzer family hail from Nebraska, and on that day, when Sam was just six, his parents took him to the hospital out of concern — but what started as a concern for his cough became far more serious.

“I took him to the urgent care and they took an X-ray, but they pretty much immediately sent us to the ER,” Sam’s mom, Jamie, said. “They thought he had pneumonia, and he had tested positive for three different viruses.”…
