DENVER, CO — The man who drove a semi-truck into stopped traffic on Interstate 70 in Colorado and caused a fiery crash that killed four people is asking to be released on parole.
Rogel Aguilera-Mederos is now before state parole officials after his case became a national story and his original 110-year prison sentence was later reduced to 10 years. The reduction made him eligible for parole this year. During the hearing, Aguilera-Mederos spoke about the victims, said he prays daily, and asked for forgiveness from the people affected by the crash.
The parole board has not made a final decision. The case has been sent to the full board for review, and at least four of the seven participating members must vote yes for Aguilera-Mederos to be released.
