Denver cop never tested for DUI despite ejection from 2 a.m. high-speed crash

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Denver Police Officer Chris Maroney received a 10-day suspension for a reckless driving conviction in 2023, but he might have faced termination had he been convicted of driving under the influence for his July 21, 2022, crash.

Instead, the now 34-year-old officer is back on the force since he was never tested for DUI, despite some circumstances that call into question whether he was sober at the time of an accident that he was fortunate to survive.

Witnesses: Officer was going more than 80 mph

It was 2 a.m. when witnesses saw Maroney lose control of his personal vehicle, pop a curb at 160 N. Monaco St. and crash through four residential yards before his car came to a stop in the front yard of 220 N. Monaco St.

The debris field measured 730 feet.
