Timeline for the 16th Street Mall: When will the fences come down?

DENVER ( KDVR ) — On Tuesday, Denver revealed a new addition to the 16th Street Mall Project that put it one step closer to completion.

The first of the granite pavers was installed between Larimer and Lawrence streets. The new transit paver system is a sign that phase one is nearing completion, according to the city of Denver .

The new pavers have been added to address deteriorating infrastructure and fix drainage issues.

While the city still has to add pavers to the rest of the strip, some full-block fencing could be removed as soon as late spring, the Denver Department of Transportation and Infrastructure told FOX31 in an email.

Phase one is still in progress, but by the summer, the city expects full blocks to be completed.

By late spring, the first two blocks from Market to Lawrence will have the fences removed, DOTI said. After that, there will be small-scale installations, like seating areas or play structures with a significantly reduced fence footprint.
