Brandon Francisco Ramos agreed to a deal to plead guilty to third-degree assault after initially pleading not guilty to felony charges
A Denver police officer accused of shooting and injuring multiple bystanders after he saw an armed suspect in 2022 was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months of probation, according to a local media report.
Brandon Francisco Ramos initially pleaded not guilty last September to multiple felony charges related to the shooting, but agreed to a deal on Tuesday to plead guilty to third-degree assault . In exchange, prosecutors dropped multiple other charges including felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor reckless endangerment.
Ramos was one of multiple police officers who responded around 1:30 a.m. July 17, 2022, to downtown Denver , where officers were attempting to apprehend then-21-year-old Jordan Waddy for an alleged altercation outside a bar, according to a report by ABC 7 Denver .
Body camera footage from the incident showed Waddy removing a handgun from the pocket of his hoodie and throwing it on the ground before raising his hands in the air. Police then fired at him among a crowd, injuring six people in addition to Waddy.
