A Colorado man was convicted on Tuesday for the death of his toddler, who ingested 10 times the amount of fentanyl needed to kill an adult after going unchecked for nearly 14 hours, per the authorities.
Alonzo Montoya, 33, was found guilty of knowing/reckless child abuse resulting in death, knowing exposure of controlled substance manufacturing activities, knowing/reckless child abuse resulting in no injury, a pattern of racketeering under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and conspiracy to commit a pattern of racketeering under COCCA.
Aviyana Montoya, Alonzo’s 22-month-old daughter, died on Jan. 2, 2022, at their home in Brighton after she ingested a significant amount of fentanyl, the Colorado’s 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a press release .
The coroner revealed that Aviyana had 10 times the amount of fentanyl in her system needed to kill an adult.
On the night of her death, she was placed in her crib at around midnight and left alone for nearly 14 hours. She was seen crying and struggling to breathe on home surveillance cameras, the district attorney’s office said.
