DENVER (KDVR) — It’s the first of its kind, a state-wide assistance program for victims of car thefts.
The program is run by the Colorado State Patrol and the state’s Auto Theft Prevention Authority. It reimburses victims for costs related to having their vehicle stolen .
Car insurance rates are rising in Colorado – here’s why
The program was approved by state lawmakers in 2023 and has been operating since July.
It’s a way for victims to get financial help for several needs following the pain of having their car, truck or SUV stolen.
“Even if you have full coverage insurance, so often you have lost time, you have a deductible to cover,” Cale Gould with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority said.
Vehicle theft has been a huge problem across the state, but a brand-new program can reimburse you for your troubles.
“The current program’s active through June 30, the end of the fiscal year,” Gould said. “Applications will likely no longer be taken probably at the end of May or so to allow for those applications to be processed and payment to be made.”
