Downtown Denver snitch app used to report 62 incidents in three weeks

A new app Denver residents can use to take pictures of things that don’t seem right downtown and report them to authorities documented 62 incidents in its first three weeks.

Laura Watcher from the city’s finance department and Ryan Ertman of the Downtown Denver Partnership gave a presentation Wednesday to the Safety, Housing, Education and Homelessness Committee of the City Council. The app is an offshoot of the city’s Yellow Vest Ambassador Program.

“One of the core strengths of the Denver Ambassador program is visibility,” according to the presentation. “All Denver Ambassadors will wear a yellow vest so when residents and visitors see someone wearing a yellow vest, they know that person can answer questions and provide support.”

Those who wear yellow vests downtown will also offer services to people experiencing homelessness. Of the 62 incidents reported by the app, 18 were for homeless encampments and 12 for drug use. Thirty-six reports involved safety issues and 26 were maintenance related.
