Vehicles stuck in snow prevent plow operations near Golden

DENVER (KDVR) — As several inches of snow fell in the high country and the metro area Saturday, travelers throughout the state faced slick roads and road closures .

Crews with the Colorado Department of Transportation were in full force plowing roads, with extra focus on the Denver metro area.

Heavy snowfall in metro area prompts full-on response from CDOT crews

CDOT told FOX31 that there were about 114 plows on the roads all day Saturday , and they planned to be on the roads through the evening and on standby even after the storm passes.

However, snow removal operations were halted in some areas because there were many vehicles stuck in the snow and plows could not get through, according to Colorado State Patrol in Golden.

CSP advised travelers to avoid the areas where stuck vehicles were preventing plows from going through, including Interstate 70 and US Highway 40 near Golden and Morrison, as well as US Highway 285 into the mountains between C-470 and Conifer.

Drivers were advised to also avoid Robinson Hill Road and Douglas Mountain Road. Mobile phone GPS systems might recommend those routes, but CSP said that was a “bad idea.”
