Stabbings at Denver homeless hotel under investigation, council member says

The council member of the district containing the Tamarac homeless hotel in Denver said in her newsletter published Tuesday that police continue to investigate stabbings at the hotel.

“Many of you are concerned, as am I, about the incidents that happened last week at the Tamarac,” Diana Romero Campbell wrote in the newsletter. “The Denver Police Department is investigating the incidents and has been incredibly responsive. I am working with the mayor’s office, (police), and the Salvation Army to reevaluate the security and safety measures for the Tamarac and we are looking to take additional steps where it’s necessary. It is my utmost priority that our community is as safe as possible, both inside and outside of the shelter. We remain committed to ensuring this shelter is a welcoming, safe place for families experiencing homelessness.”

Romero Campbell said officials are working on how to bring a playground to the site. She also wrote in the newsletter that she’s listening to the concerns of the business community. “Our office, alongside Mayor (Mike) Johnston, hosted a business roundtable at the end of January to find ways the city can support our local businesses now that the family shelter has opened. We had a great discussion and look forward to hosting more in the future.”
