Multiple Colorado distilleries win ‘world’s best’ awards for whiskeys

The World Drinks Awards has announced their 2024 World Whiskies Awards winners, with several Colorado distilleries winning big.

Before getting into who won what, it’s important to note that the organization splits bourbon into two categories – Kentucky bourbon and non-Kentucky bourbon. This seems to stem from a common belief that all bourbon must be made in Kentucky, which isn’t true, but is still prevalent enough for many fans of the style of liquor to consider it so.

Either way, The World Drinks Awards opts to separate all of their bourbon categories into ‘Kentucky’ and ‘non-Kentucky,’ thus Centennial State competitors were included in the latter.

And now to the award-winners:

Breckenridge Distillery ended up getting plenty of attention thanks to their ‘finished’ bourbons, which are bourbons put into used and charred barrels as an additional touch to the process. Not only did Breckenridge Distillery win the ‘Best Non-Kentucky Finished Bourbon’ category and ‘US World’s Best Finished’ category for its Port Cask Finish variety, it also got a gold medal for its PX Sherry Cask Finish whiskey, as well as a ‘bronze’ for its Bourbon Whiskey in the ‘blended’ category.
