Police commend caller who reported DUI suspect with children in the car

DENVER (KDVR) — A man arrested in Wheat Ridge is accused of driving drunk with two young children in the car, and police say they were able to get him off the road thanks to a concerned citizen.

According to a Wheat Ridge Police Department post , someone called 911 after seeing the man drinking at the Anderson Park pool. The man allegedly stumbled to his car and tried to drive with two children on board.

Officers responded to the location and pulled over the driver for a traffic stop. Police said the car was weaving back and forth along West 44th Avenue.

According to Wheat Ridge police, the man showed clear signs of intoxication and an officer found several empty Fireball shooters in the vehicle.

He was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence. Police said he was issued a summons for DUI and child abuse, among other charges.

Police commended the initial 911 caller.
