Police urge vigilance, locked doors after Arvada resident awakens to burglars

ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — The Arvada Police Department is investigating a break-in with thieves wearing high-visibility clothing at an area home and a potential link to another case.

On Friday, June 14 at 2 p.m., a person living near Independence Way and West 87 th Place called police to report a burglar inside their bedroom.

“They were napping, woke up and there was someone in their room wearing a high visibility reflective vest,” said Arvada Police information officer Chase Amos.

According to Amos, the victim yelled and the suspect ran outside toward a few other people dressed in reflective vests. The group then got into a black Toyota Prius and sped away.

“In Arvada, at least, I can say this is a very unusual case,” Amos said.

However, a similar incident was reported in Aurora just two days before.

On Wednesday, a doorbell camera caught a man dressed in a reflective vest posing as a delivery driver. When the homeowner opened the door, the man and two others holding guns forced their way inside. According to Aurora police, the men assaulted an adult and two children in the home and stole jewelry and cash.
