Denver weather: Increased chance of thunderstorms Friday

Gusty winds and potential thunderstorms and rain make another appearance around the Front Range and I-25 urban corridor Friday ahead of mixed weather weekend.

Denver residents can expect a 30% percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday, mainly after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

It’ll be mostly sunny with a high near 92 and south southwest winds blowing between 5 to 13 mph, becoming northwest throughout the morning. Winds could gust as high as 21 mph.

“Scattered thunderstorms will return this afternoon, with potential for a few to become strong to severe, especially from Weld County eastward to the Kansas state line,” the NWS said. “Strong/gusty outflow winds will be possible for most areas, and could locally approach 50 to 60 mph in the afternoon.”

Showers linger Friday night with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. It’ll be partly cloudy with a low around 58, and north winds between 6 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
