Another $1.7M for Denver migrant support: Food, shelter costs through end of year

The Denver City Council will consider spending $1.7 million Monday to feed and shelter migrants that have been coming to Denver from the southern border.

The council will consider awarding two contracts. The first, for $1.2 million, would go to ViVe to operate the migrant shelter at Denver Community’s Church’s former gymnasium. A second contract is for Colorado Hospitality Services for $510,00 to provide meals to the migrants.

Newly arriving migrants have slowed to a trickle in Denver. The city has closed all of its homeless hotels for migrants. Only the shelter remains open.

The contact calls upon ViVe to deliver services “in a manner culturally appropriate and consistent with the city’s commitment to equity values, which encompass inclusion, engagement, equitable programming, accountability, transparency, and the promotion of intersectional, inclusive, and accessible programs and strategies. (The) contractor shall ensure all staff provide services through a trauma-informed approach with an emphasis on harm reduction.”
