Balcony, stairway collapse at Highland apartment building

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Fire Department responded to a building collapse that injured a construction worker Monday afternoon in Denver’s Highland neighborhood.

The construction worker was taken to a local hospital by personal vehicle after the collapse, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

The collapse was in the area of 30th Avenue and Vallejo Street.

According to the department, a stairway and exterior balcony collapsed on a building where the upper floors were under construction.

Fire crews helped move two families on the lower floor to safety. All residents in the lower floors were being relocated to hotels.

No other injuries had been reported as of 1:10 p.m.

No further information was available. FOX31 has a reporter headed to the scene.
