Steelers fans travel well but Broncos hope that won’t be a big deal in home opener

ENGLEWOOD – Steelers fans last Sunday were out in full force at Atlanta, forcing the Falcons’ offense to go to a silent count.

Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton doesn’t foresee anything like that happening Sunday when Pittsburgh arrives for Denver’s home opener.

“We’ll be fine,’’ Singleton said after a practice at Broncos Park. “I think we have better fans than the Falcons.”

Nevertheless, there still figures to be plenty of Steelers fans at Empower Field at Mile High a week after they cheered on an 18-10 win at Atlanta. Memories continue to linger about their strong presence in Denver at the AFC Championship Game in 2005 and at playoff games at Empower Field in 2011 and 2015.

“Steelers fans travel really well,’’ said Broncos cornerback Levi Wallace, who played the past two years with the Steelers. “Some of the best fans in the NFL, and so I’m sure they’re going to travel well here and I think the place will be fun and exciting and electric for sure.”

Tackle Ryan Harris, who played for the Broncos from 2007-10 and in 2015, also knows firsthand about Steelers fans. He finished his career with Pittsburgh in 2016, and said “Steelers fans travel the best in the NFL.”
