Police say the 15-year-old behind the wheel of the pick-up truck is charged with driving without a license and hit-and-run, although he did eventually come back to the scene. They say because he returned, the district attorney might not accept that.

Leonel and Ana Morales-Hernandez took a break from their daughter’s bedside in the ICU to tell FOX31 her story.

“Devastating,” said Leonel. “Definitely it’s one of the terrible feelings you have in your life.”

Nearly a week ago on Friday, Sept. 13, their daughter Isabella was walking across the street from her home heading to church when tragedy struck.

“There was a kid, 13 to 15 years old, with a pickup. A big pickup. I guess he got scared and he hit and run,” said Ana.
