Former parental evaluator on Colorado child custody cases accused of faking degree

DENVER (KDVR) — A former child and family investigator and parental evaluator who worked on child custody cases in Colorado for years was accused of using false credentials to get a state license as a psychologist, according to an indictment released Tuesday.

Shannon McShane, 57, was charged with eight counts of attempt to influence a public servant, five counts of forgery, one count of perjury and one count of retaliation against a victim or witness. According to a release by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, she was in custody at the Denver Downtown Detention Center, and according to Denver sheriff’s records , she remained in custody as of Tuesday night.

According to an indictment, for six years starting in 2017, she attested to state agencies and judicial officers that she had a PhD in psychology from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. She did this to get licensed as a psychologist, certified addiction counselor and licensed addiction counselor with the Colorado Department of Agencies.
