“We’ve never met her before,” Cheryl Shafer said. “She’s a total stranger, but now she’s part of our family.”

Roger Morales, Bubba to those who know and love him, is on the road often going to dialysis. He goes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, leaves his home around 4 a.m. and gets back around 11 a.m.

Morales has been receiving dialysis for more than five years and has been suffering from kidney issues for more than a decade.

“Once when he was in the hospital, I was on my way home and I got a call and said, ‘You need to come back. We just called a priest and he didn’t we didn’t think it’s going to make it through the night,’ but he did,” Morales’ fiancé Shafer said.
