Denver may spend $6M to extend free ride share program

The Denver City Council on Monday will consider a nearly $6 million, three-year contract extension to continue the city’s free micro transit ride share service in several neighborhoods.

Paired with that proposal, the council will also consider a $750,000 grant agreement with the Regional Transportation District to provide the free Denver Connector Microtransit Program in west Denver neighborhoods.

The ride share program is a fare-free service transporting residents within local neighborhoods or to and from RTD stations. It uses multi-passenger shuttles to provide on demand and fixed schedule services.

If the contract extension is approved, a total of $5,991,568 will be injected into the Denver Connector Microtransit Program for services in Montbello, Gateway, Globeville, Elyria-Swansea and – if separately approved on Monday – in west Denver neighborhoods.

Created in 2021 by Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, the free rideshare program is designed to meet community needs and improve mobility for residents.
