Disaster emergency declared in Colorado for snowstorm; How often it happens

DENVER ( KDVR ) — On Thursday, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis declared a disaster emergency due to the incoming snow, but this declaration isn’t all that uncommon.

The early November snowstorm brought in over a foot of snow in some areas of Colorado, postponing Red Rocks shows, closing roads and canceling flights at the Denver International Airport. And the worst of the storm is yet to come.

Polis declared the emergency as feet of snow are expected to drop over the Eastern Plains and upward of a foot of snow in the Denver metro, and the governor wants resources in place.

“The declarations are necessary for the activation of the State EOC and other state resources such as the use of the Colorado National Guard for rescue efforts,” said Trost
