Vigil will remember the homeless lives lost in the Denver metro in 2024

DENVER ( KDVR ) — The We Will Remember: Homeless Persons’ Memorial Vigil will be held on Saturday to remember the homeless lives lost in 2024.

The vigil will be hosted by the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, which has put on the event for 35 years.

The organization said that this memorial service may be the only service honoring the lives of these people who were experiencing homelessness when they died.

Members of the Denver community will gather and hold lit candles in tribute as the names of those who died are read during a ceremony. Luminaries can also be found around the area honoring those lives.

A data presentation called the “We Will Remember Homeless Death Review” will accompany the memorial service to inform attendees about statistics associated with people experiencing homelessness. According to the Colorado Coalition, 294 people experiencing homelessness died between Nov. 1, 2023 and Oct. 31, 2024, which was a decrease from 311 in the previous year.
