“Dodging bullets, almost daily. Dodging bullets, picking up other people’s trash, bullets on the ground,” said neighbor David Bottoms. “Twice over the summer, I walked out into the middle of a gunfight out on 13th, just watering my lawn.”
Other neighbors wanted to remain anonymous at Saturday’s meeting due to fears of retaliation. Some had concerns about being able to sell their homes if they ultimately wanted to leave.
“We don’t want to have to do this. It puts us in risk of our lives, but we can’t leave so really, we don’t have the luxury of not doing anything,” said a neighbor. “The value, how much are we going to be able to sell our house?”
