Weekend things to do around Denver and beyond: New Year’s Eve events and more

NEW YEARS EVE

A great time for fireworks and drone shows celebrating the new year to come. Fireworks over Downtown Denver are best watched on the 16th Street Mall at 9 p.m. and midnight. A 20-year tradition with street entertainers. Watch the ball drop countdown in the Mile High Tree in Civic Center Park, also 9 p.m. and midnight. If you can see Pikes Peak, the AdAmAn mountain climbers will set off fireworks at 9 p.m. but the big show is at midnight from the summit. It’s all about the Avalanche for the Mile High Drone Show covering the sky at 5:30 p.m. before Tuesday’s game at Ball Arena.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

Light shows are aglow tonight. The last night for the holiday displays and the 65-foot tall Christmas tree at Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park​. See the season finale of the Trail of Lights at Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms, Littleton. The Zoo Lights continue through Jan. 5. Beautiful Blossoms of Light at Denver Botanic Gardens are open, they continue through Jan. 12. At Hudson Gardens see the trees covered with thousands of lights. The final night of the season for Bridge of Lights at the Royal Gorge, across the famous suspension bridge at Cañon City.
