The Safety, Housing, Education and Homelessness Committee of the Denver City Council will vote Wednesday on whether to extend a contract with Housing Connector to help find landlords who will rent to people experiencing homelessness.
If approved by the committee and full council, the city will add $900,000 to the contract so that Housing Connector can add 750 landlords to its inventory this year and house 500 households. “Landlord recruitment and engagement is an essential part of creating stability for clients exiting homelessness to housing,” according to a memo from city staff to the committee.
Carrots for landlords
Housing Connector provides support to housing teams by doing the following, the memo states:
• Providing a Zillow-powered marketplace. This provides clients with access to choice in their housing with a streamlined housing search, application and placement process. Housing Connector also provides training to partners on how to use the platform and offer ongoing technical support.
