DENVER ( KDVR ) — A man has been charged with first-degree murder related to a deadly shooting that happened in Commerce City earlier this week.
On Sunday around 4 a.m., the Commerce City Police Department responded to the area near East 62nd Avenue and Jasmine Court. Gunfire detection technology had alerted police that shots were fired in the area.
When police arrived on the scene, they found a man dead inside a parked vehicle.

Police began searching the ground and used drones to search the area. CCPD said they found a man hiding in a backyard near the scene, and he was taken into custody as a person of interest.
Friday, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced that it filed a first-degree murder charge against 30-year-old Fabian Benitez in connection to the case.
Benitez is set to appear in court on Friday morning.
