DENVER ( KDVR ) — Most of the time, snow plows help keep the roads safe by clearing snow, but on Thursday, a group of snow plows on Interstate 70 helped apprehend a suspect during a police chase.
According to Idaho Springs Police, an officer was patrolling eastbound on I-70 just before midnight on Thursday when a black Hyundai Accent passed by with a non-functioning taillight — but once the license plate passed through the reader, the officer was ready to pull over the vehicle for more than a taillight.
This Colorado area is expected to see the most snow this weekend
Police said the reader indicated that the license plate was reported stolen from Northglenn and connected to a strong-arm robbery and prior evading in Lakewood on New Year’s Eve.
The officer tried to pull the car over, but police said the driver eluded the officer, which is when officers from Idaho Springs, the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office and the Gilpin Sheriff’s Office attempted to use stop sticks to halt the suspect. Police said a tactical rolling roadblock was attempted, but the suspect avoided the maneuver and ended up hitting a deputy’s vehicle.
