DENVER ( KDVR ) — Passengers will be able to ride on Regional Transportation District services for free on Feb. 4 in honor of Rosa Parks.
According to RTD, Feb. 4 is known as Transit Equity Day, and it observes the contributions of Parks, a civil rights leader who refused to give up her seat and move to the back of a segregated bus in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks helped launch transit equity and challenged racial segregation for Black Americans in public spaces.

“Equitable access to public transportation is a civil right afforded to all,” said general manager and CEO Debra A. Johnson. “RTD’s services are more than a means to connect customers to work, school, health care and social destinations – they are the great societal equalizer, providing individuals with access to opportunities for their betterment of their lives. The agency exists to serve others, and the introduction of Zero Fare for Transit Equity Day reinforces its commitment to advance equity in every aspect of its work.”
On Transit Equity Day, RTD customers can ride bus or rail services at no cost. The zero fare day was implemented after a 2024 meeting and will remain a free day every year…
