Updated mapping from the National Weather Service provides a look at what type of snow could be hitting Colorado from Wednesday night into Saturday morning at 6 a.m. – and it’s looking like quite a bit of fresh powder is on tap for the Centennial State.
In the most likely ‘expected’ scenario (80% chance), peaks in the southwest get the most widespread and deepest snow. Peak totals top out at about 18 inches in this region, with totals potentially matching that in the area of western Colorado’s Grand Mesa, as well. Meanwhile, the Front Range is mostly missed, but peaks near Aspen, those north of Glenwood Springs, and those west of Steamboat get about a foot.
The ‘high end’ scenario, however, is where the situation gets particularly snowy, with nearly all of the state’s western peaks having the chance to get 12-plus inches of snow, topping out at about 24 to 30 inches in some areas – particularly the San Juans and Grand Mesa. Granted, this scenario has a 10% chance of coming to fruition, but if it does, impacts on mountain travel should be significant. The Front Range still gets missed…
