Visibility limited to half-mile as snow blows through Colorado with 18″ to 24″ still possible

A storm continues to roll through Colorado, and while most of the state’s population along the Front Range probably isn’t seeing the effects of the wintery weather aside from gusty conditions, the mountainous part of the state has been getting slammed.

Throughout Tuesday morning, travel conditions were dangerous on many high-elevation passes, with multiple law enforcement agencies posting photos of snow covered pavement. Rapidly falling snow and blowing drifts have also been reported to have dropped visibility to less than a half-mile at times along the Western Slope.

Snowfall is set to continue, too, with the potential for up to 24 inches of snow falling on northwestern peaks between Tuesday and Friday morning in the most likely scenario detailed by the National Weather Service. Meanwhile, in that same scenario, most high-elevation peaks around the state get between eight and 18 inches during the same period…
