Denver records 9 outdoor deaths in 9 days; advocates want to know why

DENVER — Over the past nine days, nine people have died on Denver’s streets, raising concerns among harm reduction advocates who fear the city is failing to adequately address its overdose crisis.

The recent string of deaths began on March 10, with fatal incidents reported at various locations across the city, including:

  • March 10 at 14th Avenue and Race
  • March 10 at E. 44th Avenue and N Pearl Street
  • March 10 at the 600 block of N. Delaware Street
  • March 13 at Colfax and Logan Street
  • March 13 at 22nd and Stout Street
  • March 14 at the 2100 block of South Platte Drive
  • March 14 at the 3500 block of Park Avenue West
  • March 17 at the 2000 block of Elitch Circle
  • March 18 at 17th and California Street

The Denver Police Department posted about all of the investigations on X. While the exact causes of these deaths remain unknown, advocates suspect the city’s unregulated drug supply is to blame.
