‘Park Hill Dave,’ an elusive stray dog, finds new home after going missing for a year

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A stray German shepherd known to roam the old Park Hill Golf Course has finally been adopted after escaping city staff members for months.

The city of Denver said the pup, commonly known as “Park Hill Dave,” Mad Max or Fido, went missing about a year ago when he was adopted into an Aurora home. On his first day at the home, he was startled and ran away. Since then, he’s been missing.

That was until he was spotted living on the old golf course. After months of eluding Denver Parks and Recreation and Denver Animal Protection staff, “Denver’s most sought-after pup” was lured into a humane trap with a steak.

“Park Hill Dave survived a very difficult situation, months outside in the cold without proper food, water, veterinary care, and the company of others. Dogs are very social creatures, so this time certainly would have been a challenge,” said Melanie Sobel, Denver Animal Shelter director.

The city said the shelter traced his microchip back to Dancing Dog Rescue in Commerce City, which said groups of people from the rescue had been searching for the pup ever since. Now, about a year later, Park Hill Dave was adopted by Denver Parks and Recreation Executive Director Jolon Clark.

The city said that if you see an animal repeatedly alone, contact Denver Animal Protection dispatch at 720-913-2080…
