An hour of CPR, over 30 units of blood: Mother thanks hospital staff for lifesaving efforts

BRIGHTON, Colo. (KDVR) — A local mother is incredibly grateful to the staff at Platte Valley Hospital: They saved her life performing CPR for almost an hour while she gave birth to her first child. Now, six years later, she got to thank them in a special reunion.

Mikala Gutierrez came to Platte Valley Hospital to give birth to her first child in July 2019.

“I was so excited,” Gutierrez said. “Even like seeing the moms coming up as we came in, I was like, I remember that feeling of being so excited and ready, like, give me my baby already.”

While waiting to deliver her daughter, she had seizure-like activity and was rushed to the operating room for an emergent cesarean section…
